Granny Smith has lived a long life. She may not be all there when it comes to the present, but when it comes to the past, she remembers. She remembers very well.
At just over fifteen hundred words, Messy Recipe of Orange Spice offers a melancholic tale where Granny Smith reminisces about her dashing husband Orange Dream, on the day of his passing. Melancholy is the name of the game here. Granny sounds so wistful when thinking back on her husband and how they tried to form a family, as well as the problems she had with both sides of the family and one mare in particular. As the end approached, I was wondering how the author was going to tie it all together, and once those last two paragraphs hit, I was not disappointed.
With how short the story is, there’s really not a lot of substance to it, but I think it does fairly well with what it does present. I recommend if if you’re in the mood for a quick read.
